So, what’s what for levels? Here’s our best guide for you…
Beginner Level 1: No experience needed! Maybe you’ve never touched the piano before in your life. Maybe you played, but it’s been 20 years and you don’t remember anything. Maybe you’ve been playing the trumpet for the last 10 years, but have never played piano. This is your class.
Beginner Level 2: This class is 8 lessons into learning the piano. They know the note names, some chords, and they’re starting to learn to read music on the staff as well as charts. This is a good class to join if you feel like you remember the basics.
Early Intermediate Class:: A continuation of the Beginner-ish class, this class is perfect for adults who used to play, or who played other instruments growing up and want to dive back into music through the piano! In a warm, supportive setting, we’ll explore the fundamentals, get comfortable with the instrument through fun warmups and games, build chords, work on reading rhythms, and discovering how the piano opens up the language of music. They’ve been playing piano for about a year in class.
Intermediate Class: I like to think of this class as a kind of “yoga for pianists” — ideal for those with some piano experience who want to deepen their relationship with the instrument. We’ll explore chords, reading music, and cultivating ease and relaxation at the piano, all while applying these skills through songs ranging from pop to classical. Participants should be familiar with the notes on the piano and the staff, and have a basic understanding of scales and rhythm.
