Sam Rudy received his education from the University of Minnesota in performance and music theory, and has since been active as a performer of orchestral and chamber music across the Midwest. He has held posts with the Quad City Symphony, Orchestra Iowa, and Waterloo-Cedar Falls Symphony, and is a founding member of Lux String Quartet in the Twin Cities. In the summer he performs and teaches at the Oskaloosa Music Festival, and has been a clinician for the Augsburg College Suzuki Talent Education Program. He began violin studies at age 8 in the Suzuki method with Monica Nieves and went on to study with Roy Malan of the San Francisco Ballet and Mark Bjork at the University of Minnesota. His teaching philosophy, informed by his Suzuki training, focuses on the acquisition of tone and creative ways of thinking about music to inspire joy in playing.
