with Brooklyn yoga instructor, Cassie Naaktgeboren!
The practice of yoga develops a profound awareness of the body, breath, and mind that allows the practitioner to become ever more present and intuitive in all their actions. In her Yoga for Performers workshop, Cassie utilizes the yogic practices of pranayama (breath exercises), asana (poses), and meditation to greatly enhance the mental presence, strength, stamina, and body awareness of the performer. Particular focus is given to pranayama that will warm, stretch, and tone the muscles of respiration, as well as systematically extending the exhalation to facilitate longer, smoother phrases with less exertion on the part of the performer. The asana practice will strengthen the core, warm and open the hips and shoulders for ease of movement on stage, reduce inflammation in the sinuses, and bring circulation to the muscles of phonation. Finally, a guided meditation will allow participants to calm their nerves, focus the mind, and tap into their creative intuition. Handouts will be provided to all participants in order to continue benefitting from these practices at home.
Participants of any yoga experience level, whether a beginner or advanced practitioner, are welcome.
